o Michael Spignesi:

I may be able to help you with your research into your Spignesi ancestry.  I too am related to the Spignesi family that came to New Haven, Conn. in 1896.  My paternal grandmother was Raffaella Spignesi.  She immigrated with her mother, Maria and her father, Leopoldo Spignesi along with five sisters and one brother. She had another brother named Ludovico who immigrated to America in 1892 possibly with his cousin, Dominic.  When my grandmother, Raffaella was 15 or 16 she married a man called Angelo Vecchione.  She had one daughter, Fausta in the States and then she moved back to Italy.  My father was her youngest son, Giuseppe, born in 1912.  My father grew up in Lucca.  After WW2,  he immigrated to Canada to marry my mother who was Polish and whom he had met in East Africa.   Anyways,  I started doing a bit of research when my dad passed away in 2002 at the age of 90.  I visited my Grandmother twice during my lifetime, once when I was 14 and again when I was 18.  I remember her mentioning that she had two brothers, Salvatore and Ludovico. Although I do not remember her mentioning Ponza, she always said that she would like to be buried near Capri which was her favorite place.   Zia Fausta, her daughter was so proud of the fact that she was American even though she could not speak one word of English.  I have two first cousins living in Milan, Italy and have kept in touch with them over the years.  Getting back to research,  I have looked at the 1900, 1920, and 1930 US Census and have found  a lot of information.  Ludovico is in the US Census and had many children one of whom is Dominic.
